Waterworks Technology

Granger's 2 in 1 Cleans and Waterproofs in one step. 2 in 1 is a brand new patented technology that has been developed by Granger’s to simplify the care and maintenance of outerwear. In the past, it has been necessary to wash garments prior to the application of the waterproofing. 2 in 1 allows cleaning and waterproofing to be applied in one washing machine cycle. It is ideal for garments made from Gore-tex®, eVent®, Precip®, Dry-Plus® Omnitech® and virtually all types of outerwear, ski and board wear.

Granger’s 2 in 1 has been developed to add the highest possible levels of waterproofing using a technology that is 100% compatible with the original finishes applied at the factory when the garment is made. Use of Granger’s 2 in 1 at regular intervals during the year will maintain the water repellency benefits and extend the effective life of garments.

Having water repel or shed from the surface of the garment is important because:

  • Wet fabric conducts heat from the body making the wearer feel chilled.
  • Saturated fabric takes much longer to dry and is heavy and uncomfortable to wear.
  • Breathability is reduced significantly which will cause condensation on the inside of the garment.

Granger’s 2 in 1 will improve comfort and performance:

  • Cleans, adds or restores DWR (durable water repellency) to all kind of synthetic fabrics.
  • Adds oil and stain repellency.
  • Optimizing breathability while shedding water oil and stains. Lasts through several subsequent washes.
  • Concentrated formula is good for 3 or more jackets.
  • Fluoropolymer technology is completely compatible with the finishes used by all major textile and garments producers.
  • Rinses residue free and leave no odor. Maintains the look and feel of the fabric.
  • Safe for all domestic washing machines.
  • Prolongs the life of clothing.
  • Environmentally friendly “WaterWorks Technology® safe to use.
  • Heat activated. Tumble dry to achieve optimal performance.

FAQ

When should I use 2 in 1 compared to Granger’s wash-in waterproofing?

You change the oil in your car when ever the maintenance schedule tells you to. Likewise, use 2 in 1 to revive the DWR on your jacket 2 or 3 times a season. You will know well enough when the jacket is ready to be treated, when water nom longer beads on the fabric. One a year, we recommend that you thoroughly clean your garment using Granger’s G-Wash cleaner plus and then give it a major overhaul by using either Granger’s wash-in or spray-on waterproofing.

Is 2 in 1 as effective in cleaning as Granger’s G-Wash cleaner Plus?

No, it works extremely effectively and better than most cleaners, but the concentration of cleaners in G-Wash cleaner Plus is higher and will clean heavily soiled garments better as well as kill odor that may have built up in the fabric. If jackets are heavily soiled, you will get better results by cleaning with first with G-Wash Cleaner Plus.

Won’t washing damage the garment?

No, modern fabrics respond well to washing. There are a few things you should remember though. Always close all zippers, and fasten the Velcro closures, otherwise these abrasive materials could damage linings and attract lint.

Why can’t I use my regular home laundry detergent?

You could, but we would recommend double or triple rinsing to remove the residues and additives that these products contain. You do not want to mask the remaining DWR in the fabric, nor do you want to try and use a reproofing product on top of detergent residues.

I have a bottle of the Granger's 2 in 1 Cleans & Waterproofs.  The instructions refer to a measure called a "capful."  The cap of the bottle consists of a large cap, and a smaller threaded cap inside of it.  The two are considerably different in volume.  Which cap do the instructions refer to?

The ‘capful’ referred to in the instructions is for the full (large) capful.

How about heat?

Modern fabrics nearly always respond very well to heat because it draws the DWR that remains in the fibers to the surface. Granger’s products will combine with the remaining DWR and give you terrific performance. Low to Medium heat will activate the chemicals very effectively.

Some old and inexpensive seam-sealed garments could not be subjected to heat, but we suspect that most of these garments will have been retired from use by now. If you have a good name brand garment, heat will only enhance its performance.

Why does the garment need to have heat applied?

Heat is what activates the fluoropolymers that is used in all garments waterproofing finishes. Because Granger’s uses the same technology, it will require heat to activate. Those treatments that claim air cure at room temperature, we have found to be very ineffective, smelly and wear off very quickly.

What if the care tag says cold wash and hang dry?

You may have one of the very old garments that use fabrics or seam technology or a modern version thereof. Here your best bet is to use Granger’s super proof spray. It works better than other brands out there, but not as well as our heat activated products.

Are Granger's products safe for people and the environment?

The Granger’s factory has achieve ISO 9001(International Standards Organization) and the chemical fulfils the stringent requirements of the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 classes 1-4 ed 01.2/2004 Zurich. Textiles protected with these additives can be considered as safe to man and environment.

Who recommends Granger’s products?

Several leading brands not only recommend Granger’s but also use them for treatment of jackets that have been returned for repair of warranty (Arc’teryx, Marmot, Helly Hansen, Lowe Alpine, Chlorophylle to name a few).

How to Use

Granger's 2 in 1 is designed for clothing that can be machine washed and dried with medium heat.

Clean and Waterproof - You can treat 3 heavy and up to 6 lightweight garments with 2 in 1 and use either front or top load machines. First, check the manufacturers washing instructions on the care label. Fasten all Velcro straps and buckles and close all zippers. Shake the bottle. For a full load (3 garments), use 6 capfuls in the detergent compartment, but it is important to clean out and soap or detergent residues from the machine first. For a half load (1 garment), use 3 capfuls. Use a warm water setting and run the machine through the full wash and rinse cycle.

Dry - The 2 in 1 treatment is heat activated, so it is very essential to fully dry treated garments. Tumble dry on medium heat (permanent press-the warmer the better) for about 50 minutes. If you prefer (and trust your ironing skills), you can air dry the garment and then iron the garment with a medium heat setting on the iron. This will have the same affect.

Hand Washing - Use one capful for each 4 gallons of warm water. Soak the garment for 30 minutes and occasionally agitate the garment in the sink or basin. Thoroughly rinse in cold or warm water.

Dry - Allow all surplus water to drip from the garment and then place in the dryer for 50 minutes at medium heat (permanent press-the warmer the better). Heat is essential to activate the waterproofing chemicals.

NOTE: Capful refers to the full (large) capful.
